Adam no Boken

Im really excited for the new Zelda game. So here is a quick sketch of me when I was a little kid as Link, and my first adventure with Link in Hyrule....

I remember getting the first Legend of Zelda at my grandparents place (Over in Schiller Park.) My Mom and Grandma came back from a store and I remember getting the game and an old Felix the Cat doll (I love Felix heh.)

I hooked up the Nintendo in my Grandparents room and started playing. Right from the get go I fell in love. The opening with the sun setting behind the waterfall. The cool looking sword and ivy. I got lost in Hyrule and didnt care one bit.

Naturally as a youngling I wasnt allowed to play all day, so when I had to turn the system off I ran around my Grandparents place using sticks as swords and went off on adventures.

My dad saw how into the game I was and came home from work one night with a wooden sword he had made for me at his job. I was stoked, I had the wooden sword. I needed a shield so I used backpacks, until my Grandpa made me my own wooden shield and an old belt of his for straps.

The main tools complete I then took it to the next level (Of which my sister still likes to remind me heh) I wore an over sized green polo (Nothing underneath but my whitey tighties hehehehe) put a belt over it to hold a pouch for keys and Rupees, and some cowboy boots. I never had a Link style hat so I used a long beanie that I let droop behind me.

From then on ive been a big Zelda fan. 25 years, what a great series.

I am also really lucky to have a loving family to support my weird adventures hahaa.

Marigolds

I drew this cause I had an idea for a drawing of a girl with a flower. My friend Nester was telling me about how he wanted a tattoo of his wife in skull makeup (Dia de los Muertos) So I went and checked out some images. I really liked the idea and merged the two ideas.

I think it turned out good, most images I found of women in the skull makeup they where looking at the camera, or at least had their eyes open. I felt keeping her eyes closed with a pleasant yet somber expression shows the beauty of both the female face and the human skull.

I had trouble scanning this image so the first is a scan the second was taken with my phone.

Lady Sleeve

I tend to download tons of images from the web to sketch with. This one was of a very beautiful lady with tattoos. I cant seem to find the image again tho.

Happy 4th!!

... ... posted on the 6th, heh. Well better late than never huh. I drew these images on the over the 4th of July weekend. The first one was based off an image I found online which the woman had a very nice tattoo on her back. I was going to do something to that effect but in trying to finish this image for the 4th I opted out.

"Happy 4th"
The image above was scanned, the one below is taken off of my phone camera. The image above I feel while clear added some pink to the highlights. Below isnt as clear.

Not satisfied with just one image, I wanted to do another one. I got inspired by an artist by the name of Bernard Charoy. Here is "Odette"

Again, all of "Odette" was taken with my phones camera, I am having a hard time capturing these images and have it look good online.

Closeup of "Odette"

"Odette" Detail.

Both images done in graphite, white paint marker and wax crayons. Im really digging these and will continue exploring for sure.

Mr. Bojangles

A portrait of my friend Mr. Bojangles. Charcoal on White bread. I need to scan this image as this photo isnt cutting it.

The Shogun of Harlem

During my three day memorial day weekend I watched the fantastic movie "The Last Dragon" with the baddest villain low DOWN around town ... ... ... SHO NUFF!! I started to sketch him out in a sorta Afro Samurai meets funky tattoo. Worked on this during some epic games of Munchkin at my buds place and wicked dodgeball games in the hot hot sun.

This is the original scan. SHO NUFF!

Welcome Back Mr. Ruiz

Wow, havent updated here in a bit, Ive been posting mainly on my facebook page but im gettin the feeling its getting obnoxiousness hehehh. So lets play catch up. First off I set up my art table to fit my needs a bit more. Started putting up some recent art images.

I like surrounding myself in my sketches, helps me keep focused that "yeah, keep it up" heh.
I tried this set up for a bit but found it very closed up. So I moved my art kit behind me and turned this little stump of a drawer into a table to draw on. So much easier to work on. Plus, my desk kinda surrounds me, im digging my work space.

So now im all set up and started working on a pin up. I felt ive the space, the tools, and the big papers (another story for another time) to do something worth hanging up. I have a buncha sketches and photoshop pieces, but I want something that someone wouldnt mind having on their wall. So I started a pin up (Two, actually) and got to the point of color.

I didnt want to use Photoshop, cause well, kinda defeats the purpose of aiming to hang. I dug out my Crayola Crayons and started building a pallet. I went to test the colors out and made a face. And here we are =]

Mauvelous

So I went to color an image and didnt know what to color it with. I didnt want to use the computer, and I had no color pencils. So I had some pastels and Crayola Crayons. A Lot of crayons. Figured id give it a shot with the crayons, so I picked out some skin tones and kinda built a pallet to work with.

To see how the textures of the crayon worked (Havent used crayons in a while heh) I doodled a face real quick. out of a 15 min or so time frame I sketched this lovely lady. I really like the way it turned out. Im pretty excited to try it out on my pin up piece :)

Welcome new year!

Gggaaahhhhhh, already the 2nd month in and I havnt been drawing as much as I should.

Today, I was moving some stuff around in my portfolio (Thankfully returned, altho still missing some artwork =[ ) and ran across some unfinished pieces. Well, a bunch of work in my folders are unfinished, seems to be the way. YET, for some strange reason I was . . . "Drawn" in to finishing them up. While I only scanned one (For now) I did finish a few pieces that id like to share.

This guy I drew a looooong ass time ago. Hes been sittin in my folio for some time as just a rough. He only had one arm finished (The controllers were barely there) and his head heh. So, I fleshed him out some more, and decided to add 4 more arms. Kinda giving him a Kali vibe. Each hand holds a controller for a game system I enjoyed out of the rest, aside from the mouse only cause I couldnt think of another home console I played as much (I LOVE strategy games on the PC, Age of Empires, Medieval, Command and Conquer, Dune hehe).

Is this a representation of mua? possibly, but I just think its a cool looking image, prolly good for a tattoo later down the line.
